Dear all,
I want to bring to your attention the availability of a Mossbauer Spectrometer to the community. This spectrometer currently resides in my lab CSC 1114 and it was purchased thanks to Departmental funds, Prof. Wang’s, and my group’s contribution. It is open for everyone. If you are interested in running a sample please contact me or Dr. Thomas Allen in my lab.

What type of information can you obtain? This type of spectroscopy offers the advantage of providing access of the relative oxidation states and coordination environment of Fe-based compounds/materials. The Fe center may be buried in a protein, part of a solid state material, or as the metal center in a catalyst for a particular transformation, in any case you will be able to get information about the local coordination environment of that particular iron center. It can also distinguish different iron environments within the same sample. Sample collection time can vary between a few hours to a full day.
